Lyrixound for Chrome
Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 November 2026
This policy describes the Lyrixound extension for Google Chrome. The Windows app has its own privacy policy. The extension is published by Andrei Arekhva. It does not send data to a Lyrixound server. For questions, email support@lyrixound.app.
No account
The extension does not create an account and does not ask you to sign in.
What it reads on a page
On ordinary web pages, the extension reads the page’s media session: title, artist, album, artwork address, and whether playback is playing or paused, including the playback position. It uses that to find lyrics for the song in the tab.
It does not read the rest of the page, passwords, or your browsing history, and it does not send the page address anywhere. Artwork is shown from the address the page already published, so your browser may request that image from its host.
What stays in the browser
Appearance choices, such as colors, font, and window position, are stored with
chrome.storage.local. The current song and playback position are kept in
chrome.storage.session until the browser session ends. Recent lyric
lookups are cached in memory for a short time so the same song is not requested again
immediately. Removing the extension removes this data.
Lyrics search
To find lyrics, the extension sends the artist and title to LRCLib
(lrclib.net), Musixmatch
(apic-appmobile.musixmatch.com), and lyrics.ovh
(api.lyrics.ovh). Those services handle the request under their own
policies. LRCLib requests name the client as LyrixoundChrome. Musixmatch requests
include a random identifier stored in the browser so that API accepts the call. It is
not an account and is not used to follow you across websites. A link to the lyrics
source opens that site in a new tab.
Audio recognition
The extension can capture a few seconds of audio from the playing tab and send a
signature of that audio to Shazam (amp.shazam.com) to identify the song.
This happens when you choose Recognize, when a tab is playing and has no title, or
when a lyrics search finds nothing. The request includes one-time random identifiers,
the time of the request, and a fixed timezone string that API expects. It does not
include your location. Lyrixound does not keep the audio. Shazam processes the request
under its own policy.
Website
The extension popup links to lyrixound.app and adds the browser name to that address, such as Chrome, Edge, or Brave. The site records the visit in Google Analytics, as described in the Windows app privacy policy. The extension itself does not send usage analytics.
What we do not do
The extension does not show ads. We do not sell your personal information.

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page will be updated.
